Administration
Dr. Trent Vernon, Principal
I am excited to begin another school year at Jamestown Middle School and am incredibly proud to be entering my 12th year at JMS. Our school is home to an outstanding community of students, staff, families, and supporters, and I am honored to continue serving as principal of this phenomenal school.
I am a native of High Point and began my career as a middle school teacher in South Carolina before returning home to teach at Welborn Middle School. I later served as the principal of Johnson Street Global Studies K–8 Magnet School in High Point before joining the Jamestown Middle School family.
Outside of school, I am blessed with a wonderful family. My wife, April, and I have been married for 26 years, and we have three awesome children—Jude, Kate, and Ava. I love spending time outdoors and am an avid Tar Heels, Yankees, and Panthers fan.
Jamestown Middle School has a proud tradition of outstanding teachers, a caring and supportive community, and high expectations for our students. After 12 years at JMS, I am just as excited about our future as I was when I first arrived. I believe our best days are still ahead of us.
I look forward to another great year as we work together to support every student, strengthen our school community, and continue the tradition of excellence that makes Jamestown Middle School such a special place.
Ms. Jan Ertzberger, Assistant Principal
Hello, I’m Ms. Jan Ertzberger, your new assistant principal at Jamestown Middle School, where I work with the 8th grade team, the Exceptional Children’s Department and the math department. My teaching career was in high school social studies and EC inclusion (Enka High - Asheville; Cummings High-Burlington and Western Alamance High - Elon). I have served as a high school assistant principal at James B. Dudley High, Western Guilford High, Weaver Academy and Grimsley High, where I worked with staff to improve student achievement levels in growth and proficiency.
I am an animal lover with 2 dogs of my own, Bella and Mocha. I enjoy college and NFL football, traveling and spending time with my family and friends. I am from Asheville, NC, and I attended Clyde A. Erwin High School. I received my BA and BS degrees in English and History from Mars Hill University and my Masters in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am excited to be a part of the Jamestown Middle School community!
Ms. Scales, Assistant Principal
Hi Tigers! My name is Kimberly Scales, and I am your assistant principal. I have been an educator for well over twenty years, with experience as a teacher assistant, teacher, instructional coach (MCL), district level director, and assistant principal. I am passionate about providing high quality instruction and positive educational experiences for children. My licensure areas include school administration, language arts and social studies.
I am a native of Greensboro, NC, and a proud graduate of James B. Dudley High School. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a master’s degree in School Administration from NC A&T State University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Elon University, and I am currently a doctoral student at UNC Chapel Hill. I love reading great books, traveling, and watching football (Dallas Cowboys) and tennis (Rafael Nadal). I am excited to join the Jamestown family.
